As a few reports have emerged in the past few weeks, suggesting that the iPhone 4.0 firmware will allow multitasking amongst other news. People, and specifically iPhone fans have been calling for multitasking for quite some time now, but Apple has insisted to push the notifications for background processes. The reason behind this is that by doing so - not allowing applications to work in the background - the iPhone saves sustainable amounts of battery life, and it enhances the whole experience while working on an iPhone, which is to say, it makes it work faster and smoother.
It is also expected that the new OS will look revamped in terms of graphics and and apps like Calendar and Contacts will have new sync options. Differences from the existent OS and the new one are claimed to be significant, as this new OS will make the iPhone more like a "full-fledged computer", a feat they claim is not reached by any phone so far.
